Hubei, as the crossroads of nine provinces, has thousands of lakes. Jingzhou, a national historical and cultural city, is a riverside city with ancient culture and modern civilization. "When Yu marked out the nine provinces, Jingzhou was the beginning." Jingzhou has a history of more than 3,000 years, with outstanding people and prominent figures. From Sun Shu'ao, the "first efficient official in the world," to Zhang Juzheng, the prime minister of the Wanli reign of the Ming dynasty, 138 prime ministers in feudal China have come from Jingzhou. The spirit of Jingzhou is imbued with the charm of Chu culture and the beauty of Hubei.
Gong'an County, under the jurisdiction of Jingzhou City, Hubei Province, has a long history, dating back to 202 BC, when it was called Chanling. During the Three Kingdoms period, Liu Bei (also called Zuogong in Chinese), stationed troops (also called An ying in Chinese) at Youjiangkou (the present-day location of the county seat) and then renamed Chanling to Gong'an。
The culture of Gong'an is profound. In the Ming Dynasty, there was a family named Yuan in Hubei. The three brothers Yuan Zongdao, Yuan Hongdao, and Yuan Zhongdao were self-improving from a young age, striving for the top, courteous and modest to others, and beloved by their neighbors. Their teachers all thought that the three brothers were creative talents and taught them knowledge wholeheartedly. The three brothers lived up to expectations and all passed the imperial examination. After then, "one mother and three imperial scholars"became a famous story. Later generations commemorated the three brothers of the Yuan family and called them the "Gong'an San Yuan," and their literary school was called the "Gong'an School," which promoted the spiritual doctrine of "expressing one's own soul and not being bound by rules and conventions."
